Chelsea Ladies star shortlisted by Fifa
Chelsea Ladies’ Japanese star Yuki Ogimi has been shortlisted for the Fifa women’s world player of the year award.
The winner, which will be decided by the captains and head coaches of the women’s national teams, as well as by international media representatives selected by Fifa, will be announced at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony on 13 January next year.
Ogimi, the first Japanese player to move to the FA Women’s Super League, signed for Chelsea from German side FFC Turbine Potsdam in July and enjoyed a productive debut season with Emma Hayes’ side.
The striker was part of the Japan team that won the Women’s World Cup in 2011 with a penalty shoot-out victory against the United States, which she followed a year later with an Olympic silver medal.
More recently, Ogimi opened the scoring for Japan in their 2-0 win against Nigeria in Nagasaki last month.
