Chelsea Ladies sign Brazilian midfield star

Chelsea Ladies have signed Brazil international Ester.

The defensive midfielder, who is set to become the first Brazilian to play in the FA Women’s Super League, was welcomed to the Blues’ Cobham training ground by compatriots David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar.

She has played for her country 53 times, was part of the Brazil squad which finished runners–up at the 2007 World Cup and 2008 Olympics, and also played in the 2011 World Cup and at London 2012.

“I’m delighted to be here at Chelsea and am looking forward to the season,” she said.

“I feel at home already and am very happy to play for such a big club.”

Luiz said: ‘Ester is a great signing for Chelsea Ladies and it’s fantastic for us to see another great player at Chelsea. I’d like to welcome her to the Chelsea family.

‘Ester will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and plenty of Brazilian flair!”

Chelsea Ladies start the third FA Women’s Super League season this Sunday, 14 April, when they host Birmingham City at Staines Town’s Wheatsheaf Park.

Tickets can be bought at the gate and cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
