Heung-Min Son admits he misses his “best friend” Kevin Wimmer, who left Tottenham for Stoke in the summer, but it is not impacting his game.
The pair developed a close friendship during their time together at Spurs and it was a catalyst for Son to settle at the club, having considered a return to Germany after his first season at White Hart Lane.
Son, who scored in the Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund and impressed again in a goalless draw against Swansea, insists he is happy that Wimmer is playing games at Stoke after the Austrian struggled to break into Tottenham’s first team.
“I am a bit sad because he was and still is my best friend,” the South Korean said.
“Everyone at Tottenham is my best friend, but not like Kevin. Sometimes I miss him already. I text him maybe every few days.
“He is very happy to be playing games. When I am thinking about him I am happy for him because he is playing.
“If he is your best friend and he is happy you have to be happy as well.”
Son is likely to be rested as Spurs host Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday but the forward says he still wants to be involved in every game.
“I want to be top of the level and show my quality,” he said. “Every competition is important.
“We are just looking forward game by game. It’s easy to say we are going to win the League Cup but in football you never know.”
