Pochettino admits title concerns after Wembley draw

Boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted Tottenham’s Premier League title dream may already be over after they were held 1-1 by West Brom at Wembley.

Spurs needed a late Harry Kane goal to rescue a draw, after Salomon Rondon put the Baggies ahead in the fourth minute.

Pochettino’s side are now 10 points behind Manchester City – a gap that will open up to 13 should the leaders win at Huddersfield on Sunday.

When asked if the task was too great, Pochettino said: “Yes, it’s true.

“The gap now is 10 points. It’s massive in the Premier League.

“But now we need to be focused on improving ourselves and be more consistent here at Wembley.

“We’re disappointed to drop two points today. It’s difficult to explain why we didn’t win the game.

“If you saw the stats, we only conceded two shots on goal. I think the team created a lot of situations and possibilities to score. Our performance was enough to win but we didn’t.”

Pochettino left England full-back Danny Rose out of the matchday squad, with Ben Davies preferred instead.

He said Rose was not injured and, when quizzed further on the decision, the Spurs boss simply said: “He was training. Like every other week.”
