Williams explains his Nottingham Forest changes

Nottingham Forest head coach Paul Williams said his side finally got their reward for their hard work in the victory at Fulham.

Two goals from Henri Lansbury, after Robert Tesche’s opener, earned Williams his first win in charge of Forest at the eighth attempt.

Williams, who earlier in the season was assistant to Lee Carsley at Brentford, explained the changes he had made since last month’s sacking of Dougie Freedman.

He said: “We made little changes to people’s positions and how we expect them to play.

“If we can win the ball higher up the pitch then we’re closer to their goal. At times we used to sit back and wait and it meant that we were forever counter-attacking.

“Today we were 3-1 up and the lads were still trying to keep the ball, and trying to probe and getting us up the pitch. Little things like that are pleasing from my point of view.”

Williams said his team were worthy of their victory but played down his chances of getting the job on a full-time basis.

“The way we controlled the game was very pleasing and I think we deserved our win,” he said.

“I know the results haven’t shown it, but we have had some really good performances.

“It’s been a really good process getting the lads to try and play a different way and we’re getting some of the fruits of our labour.

“I’m tasked to taking the team until the end of the season and people above me will make decisions about who’s going to be manager next season.”
