What to Expect from Liverpool’s Thrilling 2024 Season
Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the 2023/24 season which will be his 8th full season in charge since arriving at Anfield on 8th October 2015 to succeed Brendan Rodgers who was sacked four days earlier. When the former Borussia Dortmund boss joined the club, the Reds had not won the Premier League in 25 years with their last UEFA Champions League title secured ten years back. Klopp led the team’s rebuilding project and within four years, the German boss transformed Liverpool from a struggling side to a team capable of contending for all major trophies. The team lost the 2017/18 Champions League final to Real Madrid before defeating Tottenham Hotspur to lift the trophy the following season. More laurels were clinched as the Reds won their first-ever Premier League title in 2019/20 which was also the club’s first national league honor in 30 years as well as annexing the FA Cup and EFL Cup in 2021/22, the FIFA Club World Cup and, the UEFA Super Cup in 2019.
Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, and their teammates are in contention to win four titles in Klopp’s final season. The Reds posted an emphatic 4-1 win against Chelsea on January 31st to extend their points tally to 51 in 22 games on top of the Premier League standings, five more points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City who have played a game less.
Klopp and his team stand a chance of securing their first trophy of the season in the 2024 EFL Cup final against Chelsea on 25th February and are also through to the FA Cup fifth round and the Round of 16 of the Europa League, a competition in which his team were edged out by Sevilla in the 2016 final.
Liverpool have been impressive in all competitions this season and there would not be any more befitting farewell for Jurgen Klopp than presenting big titles like the Premier League and the Europa League at the end of the current season to Liverpudlians. If the Reds can sustain their current form and momentum, then the Merseyside team can celebrate at least one major title at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
