Bilic admits ‘energetic’ Chelsea deserved win
West Ham’s summer signing André Ayew could be facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury during their 2-1 defeat at Chelsea.
Ayew went off in the first half at Stamford Bridge after appearing to sustain a thigh injury as he chased Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
He will undergo a scan in the next 24 hours.
“We will have to wait for the scan to tell us how long he will be out,” said Hammers boss Slaven Bilic.
The visitors looked set for a point after James Collins’ equaliser cancelled out Hazard’s penalty.
But Diego Costa fired home an 89th-minute winner for the Blues – and Bilic admitted they deserved their win.
“Of course when you concede so late in the first game it makes you disappointed,” he said.
“It’s a big frustration for us because we were so close against a top side on their ground.
“But they deserve it. Let’s be honest, apart from the first 15 minutes and when we equalised – in that middle period which was about 60 minutes – they were better than us.
“They were more aggressive, winning second balls, and if you add on top of that players like Eden Hazard then you have to admit they were better than us.
“Chelsea were very energetic and compact. I wasn’t happy with the way we played.”
