Toms and O’Meara to lock horns
West London light-middleweights Ryan Toms and Steve O’Meara will lock horns at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on 30 September.
Toms, from Northolt, puts his southern-area title and unbeaten professional record on the line against the 27-year-old O’Meara, who was recently signed by promoter Frank Warren.
The match-up not only throws together two local fighters, but also men whose hopes of being footballers were ruined by broken legs.
Toms, 29, was on QPR’s books as a youngster before suffering his injury, while O’Meara was with Brentford prior to his.
O’Meara, who was born in Shepherd’s Bush and now lives in West Drayton, initially started boxing as part of his fitness regime while recovering from the injury.
He has won 13 of his 15 professional bouts, while Toms (pictured above) improved his record to 9-0 with an impressive fourth-round stoppage of Pat McAleese at Wembley Arena last month.
