The greatest Chelsea players in Premier League history
Chelsea Football Club was founded in The Rising Sun tavern on Fulham Road on March 10th, 1905. Chelsea’s success in the following century was mostly limited to cup competitions, with their lone top-flight league title coming in 1955. The team became known for signing big-name players, although they were never consistently successful.
However, Chelsea has produced so great names to the world of football. In fact, Chelsea fanatics take pride in placing their bets at EU casinos online found on this website when their favourite player is in the game.
Here are some of the greatest Chelsea players in Premier League history to date.
Petr Cech
Petr Cech made 494 appearances for Chelsea during his 11-year stay in West London, setting a new benchmark for goalkeepers. The Czech international arrived in 2004 via Rennes and made an immediate impression, winning the Premier League and League Cup double in his debut season.
The 2004/05 season was all about breaking records, as Chelsea won the title with a then-record 95 points and won the most games in a single Premier League season (29).
Cech was also named to the PFA Team of the Year in his debut season, surrendering only 15 goals, a Premier League record for the fewest goals conceded in a single season.
Cech has left an indelible stamp on the Premier League, as evidenced by the number of records he has set in his 15 years there.
Cech is the only goalkeeper to win the Premier League Golden Glove with two different clubs: Arsenal and Chelsea. Winning the Premier League Golden Glove, a record four times wasn’t enough for him.
Didier Drogba
In ten finals, ten goals were scored. Didier Drogba may hold the record for being the most clutch player in Premier League history. Drogba is the only player to score in four FA Cup finals, and he also scored the equaliser and winning penalty in a Champions League final against Bayern Munich in their home stadium… crazy.
Drogba, like Hazard, was held to high standards when he joined Chelsea in a £24 million transfer record. The pair won the Premier League with fellow Chelsea rookie Petr Cech, and Drogba proceeded from strength to strength, capturing a second consecutive league title.
Drogba won two Premier League Golden Boots despite not being as clinical as his Premier League opponents Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney. His whole game as a striker was on a different level.
Drogba had 55 assists in 254 games, which is incredible for a striker. It shows how much Drogba contributed to the team while he wasn’t scoring goals.
Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard (pictured above), possibly the greatest goalscoring midfielder ever, tops the list of the greatest Chelsea players in Premier League history.
Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea and was a key figure in the club’s most successful years, which included four Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, and two European titles, including the UEFA Champions League. Lampard set goalscoring midfielder standards that will never be matched, at least not in this lifetime.
For ten years in a row, the former England international scored double figures in the Premier League, including 22 goals in the title-winning season of 2009-10, when he was defeated to the Golden Boot by colleague Didier Drogba.
After Chelsea’s record-breaking season in 2004-05, Lampard would have become only the fourth English player to win the Ballon d’Or if it hadn’t been for Ronaldinho.
