Stones boss hails on-loan Charlton youngster Henry

Wealdstone manager Stuart Maynard believes on-loan Charlton midfielder Aaron Henry has all the tools to carve out a successful career in the Football League.

Henry has made a big impact since joining the Stones on loan in February with several assists to his name and scored a brilliant free-kick during the club’s 4-2 defeat by Stockport County on Saturday.

The 18-year-old has extended his loan spell with the National League outfit until the end of the season and the Stones boss has been delighted with what he has seen from the youngster.

“What a learning curve it was for him setting one up, scoring and then losing 4-2. It’s the highs and lows within one game,” he said.

“But technically he’s so gifted. Every time you get a set-piece in the final third you feel like you’ve got a chance of scoring, he’s that good. He puts it on the money every time.

“It’s a two-way thing. We give them the experience to try and improve them and then hopefully they go back and get in and around their first-team squads.

“He’s definitely got the ability and the tools, but he’s young. If it’s not next season it will be the season after. He’ll have a career within the game but there’s no rush for him.

“He’s definitely got the opportunity. I’d be shocked if he didn’t if he keeps progressing the way he is.”
