Smith savours historic Bees win but fears for Macleod
Dean Smith savoured Brentford’s first win at QPR for 52 years – but their triumph was somewhat marred by an injury to Lewis Macleod.
Goals from Josh Clarke and Romaine Sawyers gave the Bees a 2-0 victory at Loftus Road, where they were by far the better side and could have won by a bigger margin.
“The first half was as good as we’ve played,” said boss Smith.
“We were outstanding in the first half – our intensity on the ball and off the ball. In the second half we needed to defend manfully at times and we did that as well.
“It’s great to get the win – not just the victory but the performance we put on tonight.”
But there is concern for Macleod, who was stretchered off late in the match with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.
Sidelined for much of his time at Brentford, the midfielder now appears to be facing another long spell out of action.
“He was on crutches and in a brace. He said he felt a click in his knee,” said Smith.
“It doesn’t sound great but I’m hoping it’s nothing long term. We won’t know anything until he’s had a scan.”
