Redknapp explains why Townsend has turned a corner at QPR
Harry Redknapp believes his decision to deploy Andros Townsend on the right wing has been the key to the youngster’s impressive spell at QPR.
Townsend, on loan from Redknapp’s former club Tottenham, arrived at Loftus Road in January having had disappointing stints on loan at a number of League clubs.
But the 21-year-old has been excellent for Rangers – and Redknapp says the change of position has helped.
“Whereas he played out on the left all the time, I’ve stuck him out on the right wing and I think it suits him,” said the R’s boss.
“He comes inside on his left foot, get shots in and I think it’s a switch that suits him well.”
Redknapp has expressed doubts that Townsend will establish himself in the Spurs first team next season but does feel the player has shown he belongs in the top flight.
“He’s got his work cut out at Spurs, with Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon there, but he’ll be a good player for them to have next year,” said Redknapp.
“I’m sure he’ll go back there a better player than the one that came here. He’s now proven to himself that he can play in the Premier League.”
