Rangers agree three-and-a-half-year Samba deal
QPR are poised to complete the signing of Chris Samba after agreeing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the defender.
The club missed out when he joined Anzhi Makhachkala from Blackburn last year but Samba was unhappy in Russia, and Rangers have long been planning a move to capture him in this transfer window.
He made his name at Blackburn under Mark Hughes, who was confident of eventually bringing him back to England.
Rangers retained their interest following Hughes’ sacking as manager, while current boss Harry Redknapp is an admirer of the 28-year-old and discussed signing him while in charge at Tottenham.
Samba, whose release clause in his Anzhi contract was activated by QPR’s bid, is expected to complete his move once the final details of the contract have been ironed out and he undergoes a medical.
He could make his debut in Saturday’s home match against Norwich.
Meanwhile, QPR look increasingly likely to complete a deal to take Peter Crouch back to Loftus Road from Stoke.
But, as things stood on Wednesday afternoon, Jamie Mackie will be staying put despite speculation he could move in the opposite direction.
