QPR’s Helguson a target for Cardiff
Cardiff City are looking to sign Heidar Helguson from QPR.
Helguson, 34, has a year of his contract remaining but is not part of manager Mark Hughes’ plans at Loftus Road, and Rangers have indicated that they will let him go.
Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay knows the Icelander from their time together at Watford and is keen to take him to Wales.
After initially struggling for fitness and form following his move from Bolton in 2009, Helguson became a key player for Rangers and was instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League.
He was also their top scorer in the top flight last season, netting nine goals. But he was troubled by a groin complaint and missed virtually all of the second half of the campaign.
Helguson is one of a number of players Hughes is looking to offload this summer.
Luke Young is also surplus to requirements but his future is unclear after a potential move appeared to fall through.

Regardless of the fact that he did as much as anyone to keep us up last season, surely he is the obvious understudy to Zamora and should be retained for at least one more season. I can’t think of many headers that he didn’t win in the early part of last season and I’m convinced that opposing defenders would rather face Bothroyd than Heidar.
