QPR ‘face wages crisis’

QPR will face a crisis over player wages if they are relegated, according to the Daily Mirror and The Sun.

The Mirror report that unlike transfers agreed by fellow promoted clubs Norwich and Swansea, most of Rangers’ signings this season arrived on deals that don’t include relegation clauses, meaning their huge salaries would remain the same in the Championship.

QPR have won only one league game since Mark Hughes became manager.

It is suggested that they would therefore struggle with the wage bill in the second tier and are now trying to renegotiate the contracts of several players, including Jamie Mackie.

The Sun declare that Rangers will face a ‘financial apocalypse’ if they go down, because some players are on four-year deals worth over £10m.

Meanwhile, the Mirror say Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has added Fulham’s Andrew Johnson to the list of players he would like to capture on a Bosman free transfer this summer.

Johnson could be available for no fee at the end of the season as his Whites contract is due to expire and he is yet to agree a new deal.

And McLeish, who was yesterday linked with Fulham cult hero Pavel Pogrebnyak, is said to want the former Birmingham striker.
