QPR chairman Fernandes hails ‘incredible achievement’ as Redknapp celebrates 30 years in management
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has paid tribute to Harry Redknapp, describing his 30 years in management as “a truly incredible achievement”.
Writing in the match programme for today’s game against Charlton – a special edition produced to mark Redknapp’s landmark anniversary – Fernandes also describes Rangers’ start to the season as “a great platform to build on” as the club seek promotion back to the Premier League.
“I have admired Harry ever since he was manager at West Ham,” Fernandes wrote.
“When I met him at my very first game as QPR chairman – against Newcastle in September 2011 – I must admit I was star-struck.
“I thought ‘Wow, wouldn’t it be great to have him as manager’ and fate has conspired to bring us together.”
A win against the Addicks could take Rangers back to the top of the Championship depending on how leaders Burnley and second-placed Leicester fare in their matches.
Fernandes added: “I’d have been chuffed if offered the position we currently find ourselves in at the start of the campaign.
“The fans, as usual, have given us great support and there is just a much better feeling around the place compared to last season.
“It’s still early days, but hopefully we can kick on now.”
