Parker Still Hopes to Finish Premier League “The Right Way”
While Fulham’s season is pretty much finished – with a rather dismal result that disappointed not just the fans but the team itself, led by manager Scott Parker himself. But even if the relegation to the Championship is inevitable, there’s still one thing to do before the season is over: finishing it “the right way”.
There’s still a job to do
“So we’ve got a very tough game tomorrow against the second-best team in this division”, Parker told the press. “It’s already a difficult game for us, of course, it is, so that’s the main focus from me certainly at this point.” He admitted that being relegated to the Championship was, indeed, a big disappointment but the team still has “a job to do” before the end of the season. Actually, there are two: face Manchester United and Newcastle on the turf, and make the most of it.
What are the odds?
Everyone from ESPN to Vwin99 expects the upcoming Fulham – Manchester United match to play out in a pretty predictable way, based on the two teams’ record in the season so far. Fulham had a great period earlier this year when it seemed to pull itself out of trouble… but lately, it seems, the enthusiasm has run out, leaving fans with no victories to celebrate since the 1-0 win against Liverpool in early March.
The Red Devils didn’t have much luck in their last two games either… but their overall record is much better throughout the season, so much so that they are on their way to finishing it as runners-up. Winning their upcoming game against Fulham would take them right beyond Leicester and behind Manchester City. And the performance of the team will likely get a boost from the 10,000 fans on the stands cheering for the team at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Tomorrow night
“Tomorrow night we’re playing the second-best team in this division,” said Parker in a press conference today, “We need to end the season in the right way
“When you get to this part of the season with a week to go, two games and your season is already defined and you know where you are, then it’s those words and those characteristics which I’m conscious of, sitting here, so that’s the main focus really.
“The most important thing for me is finishing this season and focusing on that. What’s to be next year is a few months away.
“What’s vitally important for me, and the players, and I need the players to understand that, is that you’re in the biggest and best league, the spotlight is constantly on you, and you need to finish the season in the right way.”
