O’Neill admits relief and says Sunderland’s confidence is back
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill spoke of his relief after his side’s 3-1 victory against 10-man Fulham.
The result was only their second league win of the season and a welcome boost for O’Neill following a difficult spell.
He said: “I am absolutely relieved. I am delighted we have won and scored a few goals. All in all it was strong performance by us.
“I haven’t seen the sending off [of Brede Hangeland] so I can’t comment on it but yes, sendings off do change games, especially in the first half.
“From our viewpoint we had to try and stretch Fulham, but overall I was delighted with the way we did that.
“Confidence is back and there is a good feeling in the dressing room. We have never lost that.”
