On Chelsea’s Chances to Win the Premier League Title Next Year
The summer transfer window is coming to end, and the kickoff of the 2021-2022 Premier League season is drawing close. While it may be a bit early to start speculating on which team will be crowned champion at the end of the season, there are already a few things that can point us in the right direction. And what they say is that the Pride of London has a good chance to live up to its nickname in the upcoming season. So, prepare your Betway English Premier League soccer betting and read on.
Some problems
According to Eurosport journalist Ben Snowball, the biggest problem with Chelsea last season was its attack. Take the team’s match against Arsenal in May: while dominating the turf and creating several chances across the game, the team failed to convert them into goals. After the game, Thomas Tuchel blamed himself for the shortcomings of the team, pointing out that Arsenal didn’t win – Chelsea lost.
The problem with Chelsea, according to Snowball, was its attack. The team’s results speak for themselves: the Blues conceded the fewest goals and kept the most clean sheets, not to mention remaining unbeaten by the top teams in the Premier League for the longest. The team’s defence is class, and so is the goalkeeper. The midfield is also doing great. And the attack will also be strengthened by a welcome addition to the squad at Stamford Bridge.
A welcome addition
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea FC in mid-August. This is the second time he plays at Stamford Bridge: his first stay was brief, with only 10 league games played, and two season-long loan spells that ended with a transfer to Everton. While there, he rose to stardom, collecting pretty much every accolade imaginable, prompting the interest of big names both in and outside of England.
Most recently, Lukaku played for Inter Milan where he achieved the title of Serie A Most Valuable Player, was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame, and helped the team reach second place in 2019-2020 UEFA Europa League.
Lukaku is a well-rounded, versatile forward who can also play in the midfield, is strong in the air, and can get into attacking positions or create space for teammates with his smart runs with the ball. He is also massive and doesn’t shy away from using his strength to get past defenders. He is truly a welcome (re)addition to the lineup at Stamford Bridge.
Pairing his ability to score with Chelsea’s already high-class defence looks like a surefire way to help the team get past opponents and perform much better than last season. And, why not, maybe even win the trophy next year.
