Dawson move would have changed everything, says boss
Harry Redknapp believes QPR would not be near the bottom of the table had they been able to sign Michael Dawson from Tottenham in the summer.
Redknapp’s predecessor Mark Hughes was desperate to land the England international, but he rejected a move to Loftus Road despite an offer for him being accepted.
And Rangers boss Redknapp, who managed Dawson at Spurs, is convinced the player would have made all the difference.
He said: “If they’d have got Michael Dawson – they were unlucky not to get him when he decided to stay at Tottenham – they wouldn’t have been in this situation.”
Redknapp also believes that injuries to strikers Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora have determined QPR’s fate – and that of the sacked Hughes.
“Mark had a problem with strikers – a big problem,” he said.
“If Johnson and Zamora hadn’t got injured I don’t think I’d be here now. No-one saw QPR having only four points after 13 games.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp is convinced Chris Samba will be back to his best against Wigan on Sunday.
