Liverpool boss Rodgers explains Steven Gerrard substitution
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said he withdrew Steven Gerrard in the second half of Fulham’s 4-0 defeat at Anfield because of concerns over a hip problem.
The England international was instrumental in all four goals as the Reds demolished Martin Jol’s struggling side.
Gerrard walked straight down the tunnel after being substituted in the 67th minute.
Rodgers said: “Steven has had a small issue with his hip and I will rest him where I can do – that’s why he came off.
“He’s more than a seasoned professional at the top level and he should be fine.”
The Reds boss added: “Steven’s delivery of the ball is as good as it gets.
“I’ve asked the players to be more aggressive when they attack the ball and try to get in front of their defenders because he delivers it as good as anyone.
“He has incredible quality on the ball and some of our combination play today was outstanding.”
