Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star Kai Havertz is one of the most highly-touted prospects in world football, having acquired a number of admirers over recent years. The 21-year-old is quickly closing in on 150 appearances for Leverkusen, who he has been with since joining the club’s academy in 2010. Bayern Munich – 2/1
Bayern Munich are one of two joint-favourites to sign Haverz this summer, with it not being out of character for the German giants to pick the pockets of their Bundesliga rivals for the league’s brightest talents. In the last few years alone they have managed to pinch the likes of Niklas Sule, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry from other Bundesliga clubs, all of whom have gone on to establish themselves at regular fixtures in the team. Munich are also said to be interested in Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, though it remains to be seen whether they will be able to afford both in the same window following the financial implications of the Coronavirus. With Philippe Coutinho being set to return to Barcelona once his loan spell expires at the end of the season, there is a gap in the Bayern squad for a creative attacking midfielder and Havertz fits that profile.
Chelsea – 2/1
Joining Bayern at 2/1 are Premier League side Chelsea, who unlike last summer will be able to sign players after their transfer ban was lifted in January. Frank Lampard hasn’t been shy in saying that he wishes to strengthen his team’s attacking options in the summer and they have already been aggressive in their attempts to do so. Chelsea have already wrapped up a deal for Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and are also pursuing Havertz’s German international teammate Timo Werner. Chelsea look set to be in a strong financial position to spend money on new players in the wake of their transfer ban and their interest appears concrete, though they will first surely have to secure Champions League football to have any chance of landing Havertz.
Liverpool – 8/1
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of Havertz, but their chances of signing him this summer appear to have taken a significant hit over recent weeks. That is after it was revealed the Reds had been priced out of a move for RB Leipzig forward Werner, having refused to meet the £52m release clause in his contract. Any transfer involving Havertz is set to be more expensive than that of Werner, with it looking unlikely that Liverpool will be pulling off any mega deals over the course of this summer.
Barcelona – 10/1
Barcelona’s name has also been thrown into the hat, though speculation surrounding the Catalan club has cooled off in recent weeks when compared to Chelsea and Bayern. It was reported by AS that Barca would be offering one or more of Emerson Leite, Carles Aleñá and Marc Cucurella to Leverkusen in order to lower the German side’s asking price in a cash + exchange deal. Barca’s success may also depend on the interest in Coutinho, who Bayern will not be taking on a permanent basis and his transfer could free up funds to make a move for Havertz.
Manchester United – 16/1
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is slowly but surely moulding his squad in his image at Manchester United and Havertz certainly fits the profile of player that they’ve been looking to buy in recent windows. United have changed stance to focus on bringing players in just before they hit their peak, having brought in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes this season. From that standpoint, Havertz certainly fits the mould for United, but they must surely qualify for the Champions League this season to have any chance of luring his attention away from other interested parties.
