Hero Farah takes second Olympic gold
Twickenham’s Mo Farah became a double Olympic champion by storming to an incredible victory in the men’s 5,000m.
The 29-year-old’s triumph followed his 10,000m gold and was greeted with scenes of wild celebration at the Olympic stadium.
Farah, who finished in a time of 13 minutes 41.66 seconds, took the initiative heading into the final lap and held off Ethiopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel, who won silver, and Thomas Longosiwa of Kenya, who claimed bronze.
“It’s unbelievable. I had great support from the crowd and it means a lot to me,” he declared.
“I’m just amazed. Two gold medals – who would have thought that? It’s been a long journey. I grafted and grafted, and it shows anything is possible.”
