Harrison aiming to halt Price bandwagon
Audley Harrison has vowed to prove his critics wrong when he faces unbeaten heavyweight prospect David Price.
Stonebridge Park’s former Olympic gold medallist, 40, will be a massive underdog when he takes on Price in the British and Commonwealth champion’s home city of Liverpool on 13 October.
The clash has been dubbed ‘The Battle of the Olympians’ given that Harrison took gold in 2000 and Price was a bronze medallist four years ago.
Whereas Harrison has been much criticised during his professional career, the affable Price has attracted many admirers with a string of knockout wins.
But Harrison declared: “It’s a great opportunity for me. I’ve fallen down many times and always found a way to get back up.
“It’s a huge fight. There’s David Price on the way up – he hasn’t really put a foot wrong – and Mr Harrison on the way down.
“What does he [Harrison] have left? Does he have anything left? It’s going to be a tough fight and I know what it means.
“All the knocks I’ve had to go through have just been part of my journey. I kept getting up, never gave up on myself and I knew I was going to get back to this place.
“At 40 years of age there are injuries and I’m not the guy that was 30. But I’ve definitely still got a lot to offer.”
Harrison’s stock fell further when he was stopped in the third round of a world title challenge against David Haye in November 2010 – a dismal display he says was caused by a pectoral injury.
But a victory over Price would put him in contention for another world title shot.
“Each man has his own pathway. I’m still on my pathway. It’s not over yet. The story is not complete,” Harrison added.
“I said I was going to be a world champion, and I’m still fighting on that journey. I haven’t given up yet.
“Most people have written me off, but every time you write me off I find a way to come back.”
