Half-time: Spurs 0 Chelsea 1
Gary Cahill’s spectacular volley gave Chelsea a deserved lead at White Hart Lane.
The Premier League leaders dominated possession in the early stages and went ahead when Cahill smashed the ball into the roof of the net after William Gallas could only half clear a deep corner.
The attacking trio of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata posed constant problems on the break and wasted a number of promising situations to double the lead.
Mata had Chelsea’s best chance but blazed the ball over after keeper Brad Friedel saved his first shot.
Spurs had a couple of decent openings as the half wore on, with Jermain Defoe and Gylfi Sigurdsson both going close.
But the Blues, who have not won at Tottenham since 2005, stood firm to lead at the interval.
