Tjaronn Chery went closest to scoring for QPR during a first half which ended with Sheffield Wednesday’s Modou Sougou being stretchered off.

Chery met Sandro’s volleyed diagonal pass with a crisp volley of his own, but his effort from the left-hand edge of the penalty area went wide of the near post.

Chery saw another shot deflected wide and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas had a shot saved by Wednesday keeper Keiran Westwood.

At the other end, Barry Bannan blazed wastefully wide after cutting inside Nedum Onuoha.

And shortly before the interval, Clint Hill slipped and then poleaxed Sougou with a crunching last-ditch challenge to prevent the Owls winger pouncing on the loose ball 30 yards from goal.

Chris Ramsey made three changes to the QPR side, with Hill, Massimo Luongo and Daniel Tozser coming in for Gabriele Angella, Leroy Fer and Karl Henry.
