Half-time: Brentford 2 Reading 0
Jota’s second goal in three games and a strike from Alex Prichard gave Brentford a half-time lead against Reading.
Summer signing Jota, who bagged his first Bees goal in last weekend’s win over Leeds, tapped in at the near post from an Alan McCormack cross on 11 minutes.
Pritchard, who replaced Toumani Diagouraga as the only change from the midweek defeat at Watford, fired in a loose ball from inside the box after Andre Gray was tackled.
Reading, without a win in four, had their best chance when Nick Blackman cut inside and curled an effort past the far post.
But the Bees could have had a third just before the break when goalscorers Pritchard and Jota combined for the Spaniard to head over from close range.
Brentford (4-3-3): Button; McCormack, Tarkowski, Craig, Bidwell; Judge, Douglas, Pritchard; Odubajo, Gray, Jota.
Subs not used: Bonham, Dean, Tébar, Toral, Diagouraga, Betinho, Proschwitz
