Pep approach made – report
Chelsea have made an initial approach to try to lure Pep Guardiola away from Barcelona, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Nou Camp boss, whose contract expires in the summer, is one of the favourites to take over at Stamford Bridge.
It is claimed that tentative feelers have already been put out by intermediaries seeking to put a deal together which could see Guardiola quit the European champions to be Chelsea’s eighth manager since 2004.
The Mirror also suggest Andre Villas-Boas left in tears after being sacked by the Blues – despite getting a £10m pay-off – and was also said to be upset that the majority of the squad did not say goodbye or wish him luck.
The Sun declare that former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has invited Chelsea to make him an offer.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen is hoping that Chelsea will let him sign Romelu Lukaku on loan this summer.
Arnesen, formerly director of football at the Bridge, is understood to want to take the 18-year-old to the Bundesliga on a season-long deal.

Firstly, Roberto Di Matteo needs time to get our Juggernaut rolling again. He won’t change anything overnight. A return to 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond might bring the success needed to get into the Champions League again. Essien (Defensive Role), flanked by Rammirez and Luiz with Mata just behind Torres and Sturridge. Ivanovic can play in the centre of defence with Cahill/Terry and Boswinga and Cole in their normal positions.
As for a new trainer for next season, let’s stop the guessing games and trust in Di Matteo to get us through this season first, in peace and quiet.

I’m fed up with the changing but sadly AVB had to go; no shouldn’t have come, he’ll be a great manager eventually (not just a good one in a 2 team league-Portugal) but it was, as me and many feared, too soon for him at Chelsea. Pep could work but what if it didn’t?? and would he leave Barca for anything other than a year off?? Jose would work, we know, but after the last time, would only do so with different assurances and would Roman provide or stick to those?? la la the merry go round continues……I’d love it if Di Matteo pulls it out of the bag but am not confident…..basically, we’re all, Roman included by his own design, bemused. He, Roman, so knows now that he should never have let Jose go, especially with Championships both domestic and European under his belt subsequently…………….
