Groves weighs in ahead of title rematch
George Groves was almost two pounds under the 12-stone super-middleweight limit at the weigh-in for his world title rematch with Carl Froch.
In front of a raucous crowd at Wembley Arena, Hammersmith’s Groves, 26, looked relaxed and in excellent condition at 11st 12lb 4oz before champion Froch, 36, came in at 11st 13lb 9oz, also looking in great shape.
The pair will battle it out at Wembley Stadium on Saturday – six months after their first fight ended in a hugely contentious defeat for the challenger.
Groves floored the IBF and WBA title holder in the opening round and dominated the following rounds before referee Howard Foster controversially stopped the bout in the ninth after a flurry of shots from Froch.
“The belts should be mine. They’ve been on loan for six months,” a confident Groves said after weighing in.
“I feel perfect. I’m in the zone and couldn’t be more ready. This fight will get worse and worse for him with every round.
“He was talking to me and saying I looked tight at the weight. He’s grasping for something. He needs reassurance and he can’t find it.”
Meanwhile, Groves’ arch-rival and fellow West Londoner James DeGale weighed 11st 13lb 7oz ahead of a world title eliminator against unbeaten American Brandon Gonzales, who was an ounce heavier.
A victory would see DeGale, 28, installed as the IBF’s mandatory challenger, putting him in line to face the winner of this weekend’s main event.
West London Sport will have Twitter updates from Froch v Groves and DeGale v Gonzales on Saturday evening.
