New boss defiant after Bees beat Leeds United
New Leeds United manager Darko Milanic saw his team lose at Brentford in his first match in charge but insisted he was determined to succeed with the European style wanted by club owner Massimo Cellino.
The Slovenian, who took over from caretaker boss Neil Redfearn this week, suffered defeat in his first game in charge. Leeds had won three of their previous four league games under caretaker boss Neil Redfearn.
“The owner wants to see a European team and I am here to do that. From mentality to style – everything,” said Milanic
“We were not enough good in possession in the first half and were not dangerous in principle. We have to play with more offensive mentality. This game was not the limit of the squad that means we have to do better in the next game.
“I have had one training session with them and this match against Brentford was a better, more realistic experience for me than that was. I saw how my players move, how they think, what the faces are on the bench. It is very important.”
Milanic will take charge of his first game at Elland Road when Reading visit in the Championship on Wednesday night.
And he said: “The first game at home is extremely important for me. I expect a lot of support like in every game, and with this energy we can make it.”

Lesser teams? I would have thought a team the likes of Leeds would put in a bit more effort against the better teams in the league, which is pretty much most of them. How can you call Brentford a rubbish side when Leeds showed they cannot compete with a team that plays football the way it should be played. You are saying Sharp should have played, he wouldn’t have made any difference to a team that look as if they are confused as to why they are on a football pitch. Sharp couldn’t get into the Donny Rovers team at the end of last season and they didn’t want him back this season. Sharp has had his day.
Good luck to your coach getting players who know how to play the game and being of a standard to be motivated but with your owner picking up Italian cast offs, among others, I don’t think he will get very far. He will be sacked by Christmas, your owner will bring in another kicking post to blame for his own failings.
Enjoy league 1 next season.

Leeds do not Attack enough, that their real Achilles heel ..they are still not playing with Confident yet, (but they are in Transition still!)
that will soon come..
remember also, thee lesser (rubbish) teams always raise their games against Leeds frustrate me so much as it does most of leeds’s fans i’m sure….but Leeds are not settled yet. no one can blame anyone at this point it too early and with the new Manager now in charge, let give him 5 games to settle in.(he will do it i believe)
but where was Sharp? and I don’t agree that we play both Cook and Mowatt? these two should have been on the bench and Sloth should have started at least..play Cook but not both him and Mowatt,,these two need a few more games and time yet..And what the hell is going on with the Brazilian kid????? this Nonsense frustrate me and we don’t even know why he isn’t allowed to play…how come he was on the bench the last two games?Tell us please?
I reckon that Kid will win games for us. but let no one panic though..we really need to give this manager till the end of October…
we can mount a charge if we are good enough this game is not such a big deal, only that we lost to a rubbish side like Brentford, sorry Brentford fans….
there is enough games from November to turn the season around…we need to win the next two home games then manage not to lose the two always that are very tough marches ahead in October..let all be optimistic..one game is not a big deal. even if we were to lose the next two always-which I doubt we will lose both- no reason to worry then either….and actually, even though leeds won the last 3 from 5 games they hardly played the best football or attacked all that much,,look at the statistics..
so im happy that coach is with us though, why??? given the right players he can motivate the team to play the best football around. he cannot work miracles which he was asked to perform at his last club..he can do a lot with a good team and squad, and leeds has all that..so for me,I’m down leeds lost today but it ok..we have to look at the bigger Picture,,this guy will now stamp his Authority on the team and we should all forget about the last few matches and concentrate on the future. I don’t think anyone else could have done any better today….Leeds are in transition..and buy end of October Leeds will be flying high..just wait and see..
