Boss laughs off ‘crazy’ Cesar rumour
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has laughed off rumours of a possible move to Leeds United for Julio Cesar.
Betting on Cesar’s next club was suspended last week amid suggestions the Brazilian could be on his way to Elland Road.
Sky Bet stopped offering odds after it was reported that Massimo Cellino is set to acquire Leeds from GFH Capital.
Cellino owns Italian club Cagliari and they were recently linked with Cesar, who has not made a league appearance this season.
But Redknapp, who recently mocked bookmakers for installing him as odds-on favourite to be West Ham’s next manager, said there was “not a chance” of his second-choice keeper ending up at Leeds.
“That’s a crazy one. It’s absolutely out of the question,” he added.
Despite reported interest from a host of top clubs since Cesar was made available at the end of last season, recent interest from Sunderland was the first approach Rangers had received.
They have not heard from the Black Cats since but have had enquiries from a number of European sides in the last few weeks.
Betting on Cesar joining Arsenal was suspended last summer following reports he was on the verge of a move to the Gunners, who showed no serious interest in signing him.
“As I’ve said many times, it’s amazing that no-one has come in for him,” Redknapp said.
“He’s a top-class keeper and needs to move. He wanted to move at the start of the year and he’s still available.”
