Iwobi’s late goal gives Fulham victory at Old Trafford
Alex Iwobi’s stoppage-time goal gave Fulham a dramatic victory at Old Trafford.
Harry Maguire’s 89th-minute equaliser cancelled out Calvin Bassey’s goal and looked like rescuing a point for Manchester United, but Iwobi scored seven minutes into stoppage time to give the Whites a famous win.
Fulham dominated large spells of the first half and created the best chances, including Rodrigo Muniz rifling a shot against the post.
They picked up where they left off against a lacklustre United side, and deservedly took the lead.
Bassey was first to react after his original header was blocked following Andreas Pereria’s corner, before thundering a shot past Andre Onana into the roof of the net.
With Fulham dropping deep, United piled on the pressure in the final 15 minutes, and Maguire put a free header over the bar from six yards out.
United’s perseverance would pay off two minutes from time, with Maguire tapping into an open net after Bernd Leno could only parry Bruno Fernandes’ shot.
As United pushed for a winner, the fresh legs of Adama Traore made them pay as he tore down the right wing before setting up Iwobi, who cut inside and coolly slotted into the bottom corner past a static Onana.
