Di Matteo to step things up, but Torres will be rested
Roberto Di Matteo plans to step up Chelsea’s preparations for the new Premier League season when they face the MLS All-Stars tonight – but Fernando Torres will not be involved.
Manager Di Matteo has slowly eased in his players in friendlies against Seattle Sounders and Paris St-Germain, making a host of substitutions in both games.
This time some are likely to complete the entire 90 minutes as part of their build-up to the new campaign, while others may play for an hour.
However, Torres, who was given an extended break after his involvement in Euro 2012, is not being considered for the match.
Torres joined the squad in the United States this week and could feature against AC Milan in Miami on Saturday.
