DeGale to take on Croatian veteran Bozic

James DeGale will face former world title challenger Stjepan Bozic at Glow, Bluewater, on Saturday 8 June.

It will mean a quick return to the ring for the Harlesden super-middleweight, who demolished Sebestien Demers in Canada two weeks ago.

Croatian Bozic, 38, has won 26 of his 32 fights and his six defeats include a loss to former world champion Arthur Abraham last year and an unsuccessful attempt to beat Dimitri Sartison for the WBA championship in 2009.

DeGale’s WBC Silver title will be on the line and a victory would keep the 27-year-old on course for a world title shot or a rematch with bitter rival and fellow West Londoner George Groves, who edged a close points decision when they met in 2010.

Nottingham’s IBF champion Carl Froch has also been touted as a possible future opponent.

“This year is going to be a big year for me,” said DeGale.

“I’m looking to be the first ever British Olympic gold medallist who goes on and wins a professional world title and I just want to show my fans and especially the British fight fans what I’m made of.

“I’m not overlooking anyone. Whoever gets put in front of me I’m training for like it was a world title fight.

“I know that there are big names out there, but the first thing I have to do is take care of Stjepan Bozic.

“I’m aiming to put on a great show at Glow and if either Froch or Groves feel ready for a domestic super fight I hope they realise that I’m ready for them too – let’s get it on.”
