Chelsea slump to defeat at Wolves
Wolves 2-1 Chelsea
Chelsea suffered their eighth defeat of what is shaping up to be another disappointing Premier League campaign.
Mario Lemina’s goal six minutes into the second half gave Wolves the lead at Molineux and Matt Doherty sealed their win in stoppage time.
The fit-again Christopher Nkunku, on as a substitute for his league debut for Chelsea, then pulled one back – his first goal for the club.
Chelsea were caught out by a corner for the opening goal, with stand-in keeper Djordje Petrovic caught in two minds, enabling Lemina to head in from six yards.
And Doherty doubled the lead with a cool finish after Hugo Bueno’s left-wing cross bounced off the heel of Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile.
A first-half miss by Raheem Sterling proved to be costly for the Blues.
Sterling robbed Joao Gomes and went through on goal only to shoot straight at Jose Sa with Cole Palmer waiting for a pass which would have left the youngster with an open goal.
Summer signing Nkunku’s recovery from a knee injury is at least one positive for Chelsea.
The French forward, who has looked lively in two recent cameos, headed in Sterling’s cross.
