Chelsea linked with former Man Utd star

Chelsea are considering tabling a massive bid for Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuaín, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It is suggested that the Blues will offer around £84m for the former Manchester United star and his Bernabéu team-mate as part of an overhaul of their attacking options.

Today’s Sun picks up on Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes’ comments on Twitter immediately after Saturday’s defeat against Sunderland.

Under the headline ‘Tony blasts Cisse’, it refers to Fernandes’ angry reaction to Djibril Cisse’s sending off – the striker’s second since his recent move to Loftus Road.

Cisse is suspended again.

Fernandes tweeted: “This is the first time I am genuinely p****d off. We have to bloody keep 11 players on the pitch.

“Boy, do we make it difficult. We have eight games left, four at home, which are winnable.

“It is up to the players now — we’ve done all we can. The manager can do nothing if players keep getting booked and sent off.”

The Sun also include a story that Benfica winger Nico Gaitan believes Chelsea are feeling anxious ahead of their Champions League game against his side.

Gaitan is quoted as saying: “I think there is an anxiety in Chelsea by the lack of goals from Torres and Drogba.

“We can exploit that and even though it will be difficult to stop them, it is possible and I have confidence we will keep a clean sheet.”

Several papers report Petr Cech’s comment that Chelsea failing to qualify for the Champions League would mean a “lost year” for the club.

The Blues keeper added: “You always have years when you go through transition and the side needs to be rebuilt. Or you have changes in terms of managers.

“For a big club, you can accept that the team does not win the league because it is in transition, but you cannot afford to slip out of the Champions League spot. The big teams are about the Champions League.”
