Change of opponent for Theophane
Kilburn’s Ashley Theophane will defend his British light-welterweight crown against Darren Hamilton on Saturday after Steve Williams pulled out of his scheduled title challenge.
Hamilton has stepped in to face Theophane at the Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool following Williams’ withdrawal with a chest infection.
The fight will be on the undercard of the British heavyweight clash between David Price and Sam Sexton.
It will be Theophane’s third defence of the belt he took from Lenny Daws last year, meaning a victory would see him keep the coveted Lonsdale belt outright and remain on course for a possible world title shot.
It will be his first fight since he recovered from a torrid start to overcome Ben Murphy with an 11th-round stoppage in December.
Bristolian Hamilton, 33, has won 11 of his 13 professional contests – three by knockout.
