Bristol City boss hails Odemwingie
Bristol City boss Lee Johnson picked out debutant Peter Odemwingie as one of the architects of his side’s crucial 2-1 win at Fulham.
Odemwingie was signed on loan from Stoke on the eve of the game and came on at half-time, when City trailed 1-0.
Johnson said the Nigeria international, who was denied a goal by a terrific block from Ryan Fredericks, helped put greater pressure on the Fulham defence.
He said: “I thought tactically he was good. They went with a back three and he made it a back five really with his intelligent positioning.
“A couple of times he gave the ball away as he was running inside which luckily didn’t cost us and I thought he could have scored one, when he cut in on his right.
“But I just thought the maturity of his tactical play gave us a foothold and moved us up the pitch 15 yards.”
Johnson, the son of Hammersmith-born ex-Bristol City boss Gary, also praised match-winner Tomlin – and compared him to David Beckham when it came to perfecting set-pieces.
He said: “He works on it every day. If you imagine David Beckham bending 100 balls a day in the top corner, he [Tomlin] does do that.
“After every training session he’s always got balls out and keepers stay out with him. It’s no fluke.”
