Booth rules out Groves-Magee encounter
Adam Booth has ruled out a clash between George Groves and Brian Magee.
Groves is closing in on a world title challenge and the Hammersmith super-middleweight is scheduled to fight again in September.
Magee, 38, has been touted as a possible opponent and has a wealth of experience, having had a spell as interim world champion and faced the likes of Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute.
But Booth, Groves’ trainer and manager, says the Northern Irishman, who was beaten in three rounds by Kessler in his last fight, is not being considered.
“There’s no benefit in fighting Brian Magee. He lost in three rounds in his last fight and it wouldn’t develop George’s career,” Booth told West London Sport.
“There are quite a few options but Magee is absolutely not one of them. He doesn’t bring anything to the table.
“We’re looking at a number of possibilities – all of them significant – and want to make sure it moves George forward.”
