Benitez insists his affinity with Liverpool fans will remain
Rafael Benitez has insisted his relationship with Liverpool fans will not be affected by his appointment as Chelsea boss.
Benitez is a hugely popular figure among the Anfield faithful from his spell as manager there and believes they will wish him well in his new role.
“I had a challenge to manage a top side and I have waited 18 months to two years for that opportunity,” he said.
“I can guarantee you a lot of Liverpool fans are saying ‘We wish you all the best – not against Liverpool, but we wish you all the best’.”

Personally, as a Liverpool fan, I wish Rafa all the very best of luck. He has waited in the wings for a long time in hope of getting a chance of managing Liverpool again. He has made no secret of that desire. He has done a huge amount, along with his wife, for the people of Liverpool and he owes the club and fans no more than what he has already given. He deserves to be working and at a club that is challenging for trophies! Of course, I hope he has a stinker against us, but at the very least he deserves our respect and best wishes!! Good luck Rafa, YNWA!!!

Don’t think it’ll be so cut and dried as that Rafa. I for one wish you all the best in future management. However, this appointment smacks of desperation and I can’t help but feel disappointment given all you have said about the plastic blue flag waving club in the past. Your integrity has to be pulled into question !!
Chelski fans – If Torreschenko now starts to produce just because Benitez has arrived you must really question his commitment to your club. He either wants to play or he doesn’t.
