AVB ‘admits row’ with duo
Andre Villas-Boas admitted he rowed with Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole after leaving them out against Napoli, the Daily Mirror say.
It comes after the under-pressure Chelsea manager commented that the duo were “disappointed” not to have started in Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat.
The Sun suggest Cole was omitted because he criticised Villas-Boas at a clear-the-air meeting which took place on Sunday.
It is claimed that Villas-Boas invited comments from his players and that while Michael Essien – who was also on the bench in Naples – and Lampard were both forthright in their views, it was Cole who spoke out most strongly.
The paper say Cole told his manager, ‘I came here to win medals and trophies, but I’m never going to do that with your tactics.’
Villas-Boas is reported to have then told Cole, ‘You made it personal’.
