Aston Villa skipper an injury doubt for Manchester United game – Lambert
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says he is in the dark over when captain Ron Vlaar will be fit again.
The Dutchman missed Villa’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham on Sunday with a calf injury, joining striker Libor Kozak and defender Antonio Luna on the sidelines.
Lambert insisted the injury was not as bad as last season, when Vlaar was ruled out for two months, but he admitted the centre-back may not be fit for next Sunday’s match with Manchester United.
The Villa boss said: “I don’t know how long he’s going to be out. It’s not as bad as his one last year. I think he’s a lot more positive about this.
“I don’t expect it to be months or anything like that.”
Lambert also insisted full-back Matt Lowton remained in his thoughts, despite being left out again in favour of Leandro Bacuna, who gave away a penalty at Craven Cottage.
The Scot said: “Bacuna had been playing well and when Matty came on [against Fulham] he did fine.
“He’s not too far from coming back in, really.”
