Wenger believes Sanchez wants to stay at Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move to Chelsea, insisting he believes both the Chilean and Mesut Ozil want to stay at Arsenal.
Gunners boss Wenger was responding to reports in the Chilean media quoting Sanchez as saying he wanted to stay in London with a team that “fights for titles.”
The comments have been portrayed as Sanchez, who is said to be a Blues transfer target, hinting that he wants a move to Stamford Bridge.
“There is only one team in London, so he is happy,” Wenger joked.
He added: “The interpretation is not always what they want to say. He says he wants to win the championship, and I can understand that completely.”
The contracts of Sanchez and Ozil are due to expire next year and they are yet to agree new deals.
Wenger said: “It is true we have not extended his (Sanchez’s) contract yet but I hope he will stay.
“I personally believe that both of them want to stay and hope the club finds an agreement with them.”
