West Ham boss Allardyce shrugs off Cole’s frustration
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce shrugged off Joe Cole’s reaction to being substituted in the first half during the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Cole was sacrificed along with Jack Collison in a double change made shortly after Chelsea had gone 2-0 up, as Allardyce reshuffled his line-up.
Former Blues midfielder Cole walked straight down the tunnel after being replaced but the Hammers manager was unmoved by Cole’s unhappiness.
He said: “I had to change something, somebody had to come off.
“I wanted to bring a bit more energy and pace down that side.
“Every player is frustrated when they’re taken off because every player thinks about themselves. I have to think about the bigger picture.
“If he’s frustrated, that’s fine. Next time he gets a chance, he’s going to play so well for me that the last thing I can do is substitute him.”
