Allardyce admits Chelsea duo were too good for West Ham

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce admitted his team were simply unable to cope with Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in their 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Mata caused the Hammers all sorts of problems, while the outstanding Hazard set up Chelsea’s first goal for Frank Lampard and scored their second.

Allardyce said: “It was a tough afternoon, with Mata and Hazard both outstanding.

“As much as I’d like to say we should have defended better, sometimes you just have to admire talent.

“Sometimes you can’t defend against the quality they’ve got. That was the case for the second goal, when we had enough men around Hazard but he skipped around them like they weren’t there.

“We have to face the fact that Chelsea were the better side. We have to be well satisfied that we beat them at our place earlier in the season.”
