Harlequins sign Treviso forward Luamanu
Harlequins have announced the signing of New Zealand-born number eight Mathew Luamanu.
The powerful forward, who weighs in at almost 20 stone, joins from Pro 12 side Treviso.
Luamanu, now 27, was part of the New Zealand Under-20s side that won the Junior World Cup in 2008.
He played in the same North Harbour team as current Harlequins star Ben Botica and spent a spell in Japan before moving to Italy.
Luamanu said: “I’m really excited to have joined Harlequins and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead while beginning a new chapter.
“Harlequins’ style of play is known throughout Europe and that was something that really appealed to me.”
Quins director of rugby Conor O’Shea added: “Mat’s sheer size, power and footballing ability will provide a very interesting challenge to teams in the Aviva Premiership and in Europe and we look forward to working with a player whose best years can still be ahead of him.”
