Quins star Murley gets England call-up

Harlequins wing Cadan Murley has been rewarded for a sparkling display for the England As against Australia last weekend with a call-up for the first team ahead of their final match of the autumn Test series.

The uncapped 25-year-old comes in after an injury to Elliot Daly, who had been expected make the 36-man squad to face Japan at Allianz Stadium.

Murley scored two tries in the 38-17 triumph over Australia’s A team and has impressed on England A duty before, scoring a hat-trick in a thumping win over Portugal in February.

Murley was part of head coach Steve Borthwick’s training squad before last year’s Rugby World Cup, but failed to make the final cut.

England are desperate to make amends for three narrow defeats to the Southern Hemisphere powerhouses of New Zealand, Australia and South Africa and to avoid a total autumn Test wipeout. They have lost five Tests in a row when you factor in two summer defeats to the All Blacks.

Murley has made 103 appearances for Quins since his debut in 2018, scoring 240 points in club colours.

He joins up with Stoop team-mates Marcus Smith and Chandler Cunningham-South, who both started in Saturday’s 29-20 loss to world champions South Africa. Alex Dombrandt and Fin Baxter also featured off the bench.
