O’Shea delighted as six commit to Quins
Six Harlequins players have committed their futures to the club after agreeing new deals.
Rob Buchanan, Joe Gray, Dave Ward, Charlie Matthews and Tom Casson have all signed contract extensions until the end of the 2015-16 season, while Ben Botica has extended his contract until the end of the 2016-17 season.
Hookers Buchanan, 22, and Gray, 25, have both been sidelined with injuries this season but Quins’ strength in depth in that position has been underlined by the impressive performances of former Cornish Pirate Ward.
He was rewarded with a call-up to the England Saxons squad for their matches with Ireland and Scotland last month, as was Quins academy graduate Matthews.
Former England under-20 centre Casson, who has captained the side in the LV= Cup, and New Zealand-born fly-half Botica, who qualifies to play for England next year, have also committed themselves to the club.
Quins’ director of rugby, Conor O’Shea said: “We are obviously delighted that these players have committed to us and will continue their development at Harlequins.
“They are here to win trophies but they also understand that if the group succeeds then they will be in a position to achieve their personal aims.
“As much as we are able to, we want to keep the core of our group together for as long as possible and their commitment really allows us to push on and plan for the future.”
