Harlequins have snapped up Fiji international back Asaeli Tikoirotuma on a two-year contract.
The 27-year-old, a winger for his club but who has played at centre for his country, will join Quins in August when his current deal with New Zealand side Waikato Chiefs ends.
Tikoirotuma has been part of the Chiefs team that has won the last two Super 15 titles and scored 11 tries in 33 appearances for them.
He made his international debut for Fiji during their end-of-year tour last year when they played Portugal, Italy and Romania.
Quins are thought to have fought off competition from clubs in the northern and southern hemisphere for his signature.
Tikoirotuma said: “I was impressed with the club’s facilities, the coaching staff and importantly the style of rugby they play. I look forward to settling in London with my family and really contributing to the success of Harlequins next season.”
Harlequins director of rugby Conor O’Shea described Tikoirotuma as ‘one of the most exciting backs in world rugby’.
He said: “He comes from a winning culture at the Chiefs, is equally at home on the wing or at centre and I am sure will fit seamlessly into the way we play here and add to the quality we already have.”
