Quins move for Swiel after Botica injury
Harlequins have signed fly-half Tim Swiel on loan from the Sharks as injury cover for Ben Botica.
The 21-year-old, who was born in England but has spent his entire rugby career in South Africa, will be with Quins until February.
Botica injured his shoulder during an Aviva ‘A’ League match earlier this month and has had surgery which will rule him out until the New Year.
Quins director of rugby Conor O’Shea said: “While we are very disappointed to lose Ben Botica to injury, I am delighted to be able to bring in someone of Tim’s ability from the Sharks at such short notice.
“Tim is a player with real X-factor, who we are sure will fit within how we play and we look forward to welcoming him to the Twickenham Stoop.”
Due to his own injuries, Swiel played just three times in this season’s Currie Cup campaign in South Africa.
His time in west London coincides with the South African off-season and the aim is to use his loan spell with Quins to build up his match fitness ahead of the Super Rugby season next year.
